Our 3rd annual Outdoor Adventure Day at Shiloh Park took place on June 17th. It’s a special day that allows the kids and the caregivers have a break from the struggles they face each and every day with a parent or loved one in prison, and take the time to just have fun.
From the waterslides, to zip lining, art stations and of course, the dog petting station with our volunteers from The Bella Foundation, we had a little bit of something for everyone.
This year we had over 100 children in attendance from newborns to teenagers getting an opportunity to meet new friends and just have a day to be free. The stories we hear from the kids on what this day means to them helps to inspire us and of course, all of the volunteers and donors who make this day a reality, to keep on going and continue to serve as many kids in the state of Oklahoma as we can that are impacted by a parent being in prison. After all, there are over 90,000 kids in our state that have a parent in prison.
We want to thank all of our wonderful volunteers who braved the heat and humidity for the entire day to entertain the kids, all of our donors who provided both financial support and products and of course we especially want to thank the caregivers for bringing the kids to the event and helping to support them during this difficult period of their life.
Thanks especially to:
Shorty Small’s Restaurant for the delicious boxed lunches.
The Bella Foundation for sharing their sweet dogs with the kids.
Verizon for sponsoring the t-shirts for the kids.
OKC Disc Dogs for providing entertainment with their beautiful and talented dogs.
Full Circle Bookstore for all of the amazing books for the kids.
TriCorps Security for their financial support of the event.
Mood Party Rentals
Eskimo Snow for providing cool treats for everyone in the afternoon heat.
Starbucks for fueling our volunteers.
We especially want to thank OKC Good for this tremendous video that showcases what Outdoor Adventure Day is all about. Enjoy watching the joy and smiles on the children’s faces in this video.
